Introducing our Rocky Road Hot Chocolate: a decadent, soul-warming treat inspired by the nostalgic flavours of rocky road. Packed with gooey marshmallows, crunchy nuts, berries, and gluten-free biscuit pieces, it's indulgent, comforting, and completely coeliac-safe.

🍫 Rocky Road Hot Chocolate
Serves: 2
Warm, creamy hot chocolate with notes of rich chocolate, toasted marshmallow, sweet fruit and a nutty crunch — just like the rocky road you love, in a mug!

🛒 Ingredients (per 2 servings):
Hot Chocolate Base:

  • 400ml full cream milk (or dairy-free alternative)

  • 60g good-quality dark chocolate (70% cocoa, coeliac-safe dark chocolate, chopped)

  • 2 tsp cocoa powder

  • 1–2 tsp maple syrup or sugar (to taste)

  • Pinch of sea salt

Rocky Road Toppings:

  • 6–8 Mini marshmallows (gluten free)

  • 1 tbsp toasted crushed almonds or hazelnuts

  • 1 tbsp finely chopped freeze-dried raspberries or cherries

  • 1 gluten-free biscuit, crushed

  • Optional: drizzle of melted chocolate or white choc curls, cream

Method:

  1. In a small saucepan, heat milk gently over medium heat.

  2. Whisk in chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, sweetener, and salt. Stir until fully melted and smooth.

  3. Pour into two mugs.

  4. Top with mini marshmallows, crushed nuts, fruit pieces, and biscuit crumble.

  5. Optional: torch the marshmallows lightly for that toasted effect, or pop under a grill for a moment.

Make-Ahead Jar or Gift Bag Version:
This recipe also works beautifully as a DIY gift jar, perfect for party favours, workshop take-homes, or even styled room service. Simply layer the dry ingredients into a jar or pouch, tie it with a ribbon.

  • 2 tbsp coeliac-safe hot chocolate mix

  • 25g chopped dark chocolate

  • 1 tbsp mini marshmallows

  • 1 tbsp chopped GF biscuit

  • 1 tbsp nuts + freeze-dried raspberries

Tie with a ribbon and a tag: "Just add 200ml hot milk, stir, and enjoy your rocky road moment!"
